I wouldn’t be surprised if LOTS of virtuoso musicians were at least somewhat autistic. Hey, I tried to play Rachmaninov and look at me, brahhhh.
That, or the shaved head and goatee look is an attempt to make himself not look 70, which he just about is, he’s several years older than the next oldest guy in the band (Labrie) and a decade older than the other guys. Which I know, because I’m autistic. He went to Juilliard when he was 9, which would have been in 1965. Hey, he beat Robin Williams! Who I know went to Juilliard, because I’m autistic.
To say something nice about Rudess: his keyboard work on David Bowie’s “Slip Away” is kinda nice
