You have the same picks for favorite Black Sabbath albums as Toni Iommi.

Well, he picks those two and Heaven and Hell. That makes sense, since those would be the albums that represent the beginning of his career and two big shifts in sound. TBH I’d probably pick those two Ozzy albums as my least favorite of the first six, but it’s not a big deal because I love that entire classic era. But I’m not a big fan of that long jam in Warning, although I was at one time.

I don’t care that much for Technical Ecstasy, but I like Never Say Die. Never Say Die was actually the second Sabbath album I owned, after the 1 CD version of their compilation We Sold Our Souls For Rock’n’Roll. Maybe if I’d heard it later, or gotten Technical Ecstasy earlier, I’d have different opinions. But I didn’t have many albums back then so I played the shit out of anything unless I really didn’t end up liking it, and that one grew on me.

Speaking of We Sold Our Souls For Rock’n’Roll, the original version of that comp that was released on 2 LPs has a weird tracklist with almost the entire American version of the debut, including Warning (the British version of their first album has the covers song Evil Woman, which is not the ELO song, instead of Wicked World):

The version I had didn’t have Warning or Wicked World on it. Overall that was a solid introduction to the band with alot of their best songs, but there are some baffling decisions there.

I haven’t spent much time with 13, but it’s okay. It’s strange that they recorded enough additional material for a 44 minute album but only released it as bonus tracks on a few different editions of 13, and then as an EP you could only buy at the concerts. It’s all on youtube though.

If you haven’t heard it all, Bonus Tracks:

“Methademic”
“Peace of Mind”
“Pariah”
“Naïveté in Black”

Then there’s this EP:

The toured for 3 years, I don’t know why they didn’t just release another album a year into the tour.
