Looks like most of the bonus tracks on the Over Nite reissue are just a live show, so I’m sure that would be pretty good. Zappa’s band in this era was better live than in the studio (that’s true of pretty much all post-60s Zappa). Looking at the wikipedia page for the album, apparently Tina Turner sings backing vocals on it, I never knew that.
As far as the rest of his 70s output, Roxy and One Size are both great. I’ve still never heard Bongo Fury or Zoot Allures. But Lather is pretty good, and by far more interesting in aggregate than the bits and pieces of albums that it was split off into. I’d def recommend listening to Lather instead of the New York/Sleep Dirt/Studio Tan/Orchestral Favorites albums. I’m not all the big on Sheik Yerbouti but Joes Garage is one of my fav Zappas, though I’ve said before it would be better instrumental.
