The recent film A Futile And Stupid Gesture did a lot to expose those connections. You had a lot of cameos by semi-famous actors playing various NL writers.

Doug Kenney of course died two years after Animal House falling off a cliff looking for his glasses in Hawaii and at his funeral people said that they’d wished Chevy Chase had fallen off with him. This scene is in that movie!

(Chase was supposed to be the original Otter, though he would have been far too old IMO)
