Index > Brian Wilson - Smile 2DVD set is pretty great > Semi-related: checked out three Brian albums I'd never bothered with

There’s usually one or two songs from each Brian album I’m always willing to revisit, and I didn’t hate Imagination but I don’t know what from it I’ve ever felt like revisiting.
“People used to complain about the sound of Love You” - I actually was very surprised at how little I cared for Love You, but people made it out to be really weird sounding, claiming that Brian used weird synthesizers on it or something, and I barely heard that.
I skipped the Gershwin record entirely, listened to the Disney for the hell of it, sort of thought he was a decent fit for “When You Wish Upon A Star,” but that’s it.
“his later Bill Murray voice” - LOL, good one.
“That whole SMiLE comeback era has been kind of forgotten” - Well…as long as it made him feel as good as it should’ve, the acclaim and publicity he got for it at the time were sufficient. SMiLE has been canonized about as much as it needs to (and I do consider Pet Sounds the better record.)
I always held that we got probably the best outcome we could’ve realistically gotten for Brian–he got away from Landy, he met the love of his life, his work got reappraised, we got SMiLE, we got the documentaries, the feature film, a good ending suite on That’s Why God Made The Radio, etc. If there was still some sadness there…well, I don’t know how there couldn’t have been.
