Regarding your last point, I think society is becoming both more polite and respectful of the individual, certainly in the last 30 years; as Brian said, it was acceptable to say retarded and gay in the ’90s – stating that totally neutrally, it just is what it is – while simultaneously sinking into decadence and degeneracy. It’s as if the socialists had ruled in Victorian England, the underclass ruling in an atmosphere of moral sensitivity and posturing. If this is democracy, give me Putin… say a disturbingly large number of Americans and Europeans. A lot of these bullshit “white supremacist” bullshit accusations are just regard and affinity for pre-20th-century European culture. It’s not rocket science.
But they’re politically misguided, and target immigrants and trannies and the like, often equating ruling “underclass” as race or national origin rather than the rotting society at large, and are using authoritarian means when we as a society should (a) take our heads out of our collective asses, and (b) reform education, send the pendulum swinging the other way from “progressive” education back to classical education. We should focus on making the latter our generational legacy: I firmly believe this. It’s a bit late, unfortunately. Millennials’ chief cultural contribution was social media, which is a bit depressing.
My dad is a three-time Trump voter and we actually get on really well. I last voted Republican ten years ago this spring, in the 2016 primary, for Marco Rubio, who was the main non-MAGA alternative at the time. By the time of the convention that was it for me. Ten years ago – and I’ve only been voting for 22 years, the first four of which were pro-Democrat because of my obligatory Millennial opposition to Bu$hitler, so I only ever actually voted Republican eight years out of 22. Funny how these things can work out. I’m basically an political quietist salafi.
I’m humiliation-sensitive so I 💯 that last sentence.
