Yeah but you just know that Jack White will probably also be inducted as a solo artist once he’s eligible for that and then that will make the White Stripes inclusion basically redundant. His solo albums are better than the White Stripes albums anyway.

I was more surprised to see Phish nominated in the first place tbh since they kinda take pride in being their own little secret niche ignored by the rock “establishment” as it were. Though Phish literally already have memorabilia in the lobby of the Hall of Fame museum already so it does just seem like a matter of time. they were there inducting Genesis back in 2010 and looked more happy to be there than Genesis did. Phish is also a prog band in several respects so they have that working against them too. plus they have no hits. well I guess they aren’t a real legit rock band then cus real rock bands get hits! Now Dave Matthews Band, they had hits so into the hall they go.

though really why nomnate bands at all and then don’t induct them? they could easily just skip that phase and just go straight to announcing the winners without the nomination period at all. seems like the process just exists to generate extra publicity. just like having a fan vote, which is clearly meaningless since they can ignore the winner.
