i wonder whether similar tension exist in this movie. there is a clear tease of story elements and dramatic arc in this movie that just seemed aborted for action and references. the movie felt like there was executive meddling to downplay story and emotional moment and that someone wanted to tell a proper story but was interfered with

there was also a fakeout where Mario appeared to be jealous of Fox and and a dramatic moment and the movie inmediatelt turned it into a joke, just kidding mario thinks Fox is cool. it was like subverting expectstion of dramatic arc and pulling it away for humor almost like some meta summary of the whole movie
