I loved Journey By Moonlight and have been curious about his other work even though I don’t expect anything to reach those heights. This one is a pretty lightweight novel about a pompous Hungarian exploring mysterious goings-on at an English estate, meeting various ridiculous British people and attempting to start up love affairs. Quite funny but doesn’t have the depth of Journey by Moonlight so far.

Also listened to Roseanna, the first novel in the Sjowall/Wahloo Martin Beck series. Kind of grim and lacks a lot of the humor that the later novels have (everyone’s still miserable in all the books but they say funnier things). Started rereading The Laughing Policeman, a classic. Curious about the American movie.

Recently read The Empusium, by Olga Takarczuk, kind of a take-off on The Magic Mountain exploring historical misogyny and also a bit of a horror novel. I liked it, despite never having read The Magic Mountain.
