No. I know how old Wizardry is, and I know that the first one from like fuckin’ 1981 is considered “the first true party-based role playing video game” (and that it was a huge bestseller by the standards of the time!) but all I remember reading about any of the games is when a 1993 SNES port of Wizardry V (released by Capcom?!?!?) got terrible reviews in like EGM or something like that for having miserably out of date graphics.

Wikipedia:

“Reviewing the SNES version, GamePro opined that though the non-hostile monsters, riddles, and puzzles are admirable improvements from previous Wizardry games, the gameplay of Wizardry V is still outdated compared to other SNES RPGs such as Final Fantasy IV, noting in particular the need to repeatedly re-enter the same dungeon and the lack of multiple save slots.[12]”

It must have been EGM that trashed the graphics, I can picture what the review looked like in my mind.

Regarding Nintendo censorship weirdness, I know that Final Fantasy IV had the female lead character (Rosa) about to be beheaded by a giant axe or something but Nintendo changed it to a big round metal ball? The ZSNES port of Final Fantasy V that I played in like 1998 because it hadn’t been ported to the PS1 yet (you probably already know that it was supposed to be released for the SNES in 1992 but wasn’t because of poor American sales for Final Fantasy IV) was translated in such a way as to slip a bizarre Playboy reference in there that I’m guessing wasn’t in the Japanese version.

Chrono Trigger had you visiting a character’s grave in one time period so as to pour a soda pop on the aforementioned grave, but I bet it was booze in Japan.

I wonder if this book is good?
