That’s the funniest joke on the show, but the “Germans” episode isn’t really great all the way through. The one that’s great all the way through is the one with the American guest who flips out and tells Fawlty that his hotel is the crummiest dump he’d ever stayed in (played by the guy from Full Metal Jacket who said “don’t you know that inside every gook is an American trying to get out?”) It’s weird, though–Cleese uses it as an opportunity to make uptight British people seem worse than loudmouth Americans. It’s no Martin Chuzzlewit!
