Interestingly, “Goblin Girl” does the same thing, this cute little elevator-keyboards pop tune with hideously stupid jokey lyrics about blowjobs, fitting in nicely with the “Zappa comments on the new American cheesy consumer mall culture now that its the 80s and Reagan is in office” theme that You Are What You Is is supposed to be about (remember the liner notes?)…but by the end he has overloaded the cheesiness with truckloads of awful goblin puke noises and choruses of people singing dumb jingles about STDs.

My picks:

Fugazi - “Strangelight”: First thirty seconds are a beautiful somber rainy piano intro with guitars melting into an eerie dreamlike psychedelic riff. Then the song drags on as boring post grunge slop for five minutes.

David Bowie - “Unwashed And Somewhat Slightly Dazed”: Lovely rainy strummy intro quickly turns into a Bo Diddley stomp so stupidly fake in its exuberance, and so badly stuck in its time, that you can practically smell the record execs’ cigar smoke coming from a red om upstairs.

Metallica - “Orion”: Get to the point already
