Apparently there’s a Cormac McCarthy bio out now, the first major attempt at one.

I agree with the basic premise - moving West was the best career move he ever made. I’ve only read Child of God but based on that alone (one of the most unintentionally laughable Bad Faulkner novels ever written), over ripe Southern Gothic wasn’t his forte.
