I’m asking because it seems like the only ones everyone agrees are great are Streetcar, Waterfront and Godfather. Last Tango In Paris has been tainted by accusations that he did something creepy to the lead actress and lots of people have always thought he ruined Apocalypse Now.
He went through most of the 1960s with no hit films and disappeared for almost the entirety of the 80s. He gave weird performances from the 90s onwards up until his death and was regarded as a morbidly obese weirdo who had lost his mind, had too many kids, one of whom committed a murder, lived on an island, and made dumb racist remarks to Larry King.
Is his legend really blown out of proportion? He played Zapata, Napoleon, Captain Bligh…do you ever hear about these performances?
I’m going to try to watch One-Eyed Jacks soon…
