The Shania Twain one was so stupid, the songs are basically identical between versions with a few generic country touches swapping for the generic pop touches like they were mad libs. HUGE cash grab. The country versions are generally better from what I remember but the songs feel like they were primarily written to be pop songs first rather than the country-pop of her previous material.
It feels like Mutt Lange intentionally made the arrangements of the songs weaker so as to facilitate the gimmick, since a lot of the album feels like Shania doing karaoke over her own music. (and IMO that killed her career)
By FAR the most interesting thing about it is that she released a 3rd “international” version which has “bollywood” music elements like sitars and stuff stuck into all the songs and its hella whack, and you should check it out for the lols. (also the album is max CD length so to hear the entire project in full thats like 3.5 hours)
Actually, this would make for a great episode of Todd In The Shadow’s Trainwreckords, considering her career was pretty much over after this.
Another one: The Beach Boys releasing Carl and The Passions as a double album with Pet Sounds as the 2nd disc.
