Roxy Music would be a good one. It’s easy to tell their shambolic debut but after that the progression to the smooth seas of Avalon isn’t super obvious.

How about the Clash? Maybe too easy…Crap sure screams mid 80s.

Beatles would be way too easy.

I’ve got it - the Velvet Underground! Perfect! Probably mistake White Light as the raw amateurish debut before they hired a chick singer and got all professional.
