DST is vastly superior. They chose correctly.

its already only standard time for barely 4 months. going the other way would be a far bigger shift.
it already gets dark in the winter anyway. changing clocks doesnt change that and at higher latitudes it just gets ridiculous. “more light” in the winter is still barely any light compared to the rest of the year, and that’s if the weather is clear, which its less likely to be at that time of year.

Also it would be WAY more annoying to have the sunrise at 3AM in the middle of summer, than it is to have the sun rise at 9 in the winter.

Better switching the clocks twice a year than to have our circadian rhythm permanently fucked with
