I always associated those songs with the Ronettes because they were produced by Phil Spector, but you’re right.

I had never heard “He Hit Me (It Felt Like a Kiss” until I downloaded a three-disc Spector collection (recommended as the five years or so between rock and roll and the British Invasion is almost totally neglected since the death of oldies radio – not that a lot of it isn’t deservedly obscure – to include ’50s soul and doo-wop).

Spiritualized had the 2003 song “She Kissed Me (It Felt Like a Hit)” on the Amazing Grace album. It rocks:
