Yeah Dripping Tap is great. I can see the hawkwind comparison for sure, I have no doubt that they’re among Gizzard’s influences (“Head on/Pill” is another super Hawkwindy track from their early era). The album it’s on, Omnium Gatherum, is as good a Gizzard album as any to start with cus it’s their “white album”-style double record which genre hops all over the place from track to track.

I’m not the biggest metal fan either, but they do the genre extremely well (is it a hot take for me to say I’d take Gizzard’s metal albums over any Metallica record?). And their metal projects are all infused with their usual psychedelic and prog influences, so it’s rarely all that straightforward anyway.
