Sabrina Carpenter - Mans Best Friend
it’s a “more of the same” kind of followup to a hit record (last year’s Short n Sweet which I liked a lot). but most of that “same” remains supremely catchy pop tunes that cross cheeky lyrics with varied and elaborate pop production and sabrina’s great vocals. House Tour and When Did You Get Hot sound like surefire radio hits, so prepare to hear those in the background at the mall.

Adebisi Shank - This is the second EP of a Band Called Adebisi Shank
I was not expecting these guys to reunite (they broke up in 2014) but this sounds like no time has passed at all. High octane rock instrumentals full of complicated but super catchy bass and guitar riffs. Great stuff. I hope The Fourth Album will be happening.

Matmos - Metallic Life Review
Really neat electronic record where the gimmick is that the entire album is made up of samples of metal objects. and in spite of so much clattering junk they make some surprisingly musical pieces out of all the noise. each track kind of exists in it’s own metallic textural world, and it’s all pretty engaging to listen to, even the 20 minute title track which is supposedly telling the story of a near death experience through this sonic medium. really cool album.

Anamanaguchi - Anyway
I like their older music a lot with their upbeat chiptunes inspired tunes, but this record goes in a drastically different direction being a proper rock album with vocals and lyrics on every track. It has a 90s slacker rock feel, Weezer, pavement, flaming lips ect. pretty good songs and the synth textures are still there even though theyre more in the background. prob my least fav of theirs since their average-dude vocals just dont have the personality of their attention-grabbing synths, but nothing wrong with trying out something different here.

Racing Mount Pleasant
alt-folk-indie rock with horns. Found this cus it was ranking high on RYM. Band has potential. or maybe i’ll never hear from them again idk. it’s a good listen, nice instrumental textures and arrangments.

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
Cute vocals, some catchy tunes, and major EDM-style production that covers the whole record in pulsating synths and samples. Like the dubstep version of Kero Kero Bonito if any of you remember them. great debut. if they can follow up this record well this artist has a big future.

Joey Valence & Brae - Hyperyouth
Fun hip hop with a the beastie boys worship coming through loud and clear, but they’re well on their way to finding their own unique identity with too. I’m not a huge rap guy, but as far as modern artists go I have a good time with these guys. I’d actually recommend their previous album No Hands just a bit over the new one if anyone wanted to check them out, since its a bit tigher of a record imo. I’m seeing them at the end of the month, going with some coworkers, should be fun.

Goose - Chain Yer Dragon
They put out two albums this year and IMO this is the better of the two by a large margin. Mainly because this album has more instrumental sections which are the band’s strength. their songwriting and vocals are mid, but they are still pleasent enough to throw on in the background at work.

David Byrne - Who Is The Sky
I dont really know what the baseline is for his solo albums, i like this one but not sure if it’ll be something i come back to much since i haven’t done so with any of his other solo records that ive heard. definitely still a handful of great Heads-y songs on here though. also one song is about david byrne turning into a baby which is hilarious.
