It has to do with stuff like The Matrix having beaten Neuromancer’s ideas to the punch on screen
You’ve said that before but I don’t see it. The entire post-nation-cyberpunk future full of outlaw hackers has nothing to do with The Matrix, which is more of a standard heroes journey in leather jackets and sunglasses. I don’t think it evokes the aesthetics of the Sprawl stories either.
