Well I was looking for something dissimilar to show how far the rock idiom had gone in just 15 years where two girl-pop songs representative of their eras are basically the same thing even given the production (and “Call Me Maybe” is right between the two.)

R&B is easy, too, depending on if you consider doo-wop “R&B” which of course in that era largely just meant “black music”:

1958: Huey “Piano” Smith - “Get a Job”
1972: The Temptations - “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”

Comparing “Papa” to “My Girl” is too easy and tracks the evolution of one band rather than a genre.
