I like the long Voodoo Child but you’re no alone in disliking it. But picking something like House Burning Down as the best song and throwing out All Along the Watchtower is the hottest of takes. I have to go with the majority and pick Watchtower and Voodoo Child (slight return) as the best songs.

I’ve never been able to convince myself to like the studio version of Burning the Midnight Lamp. It just sounds ugly. I like the stripped down BBC version though.

Take the second and fourth sides, put “Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)” and “Rainy Day, Dream Away” on there, cut the wankery from “1983”, and throw out “All Along the Watchtower” and the rest of the album and you have perhaps the best Hendrix album. or at least one on par with the others. 42 minutes (plus three or four for “1983”)

Even though I really like the first two albums, I remain lukewarm on Hendrix overall
