I like it from top to bottom but the reason I’m especially fond of it is just that the shifts in tone work for me, I know that not everyone agree. I do concede that the fact Leontes basically loses his mind before we even get to know him is a difficulty.
Also, FWIW, I think that in the complete BBC production the darker stuff works but the comedy is all really flat.
