They’re hard to light and a lot hotter than you’d think – the stem really heats up. I just dabbled 20 years ago but from what I remember it’s fiddly and you have to nurse it just right so it neither goes out nor overheats and harshes the smoke (or burns your fingers). I never mastered it.
