I doubt I’m ever going to get far enough to listen to Lather, the album Mark Prindle says wouldn’t have sold more than 50 copies.

well you’ll already have heard most of it if youre doing the regular albums. it’s just better than its component albums cus the tracklist has a good flow to it and the alternate versions are superior. Studio Tan, Sleep Dirt, and Orchestral Favorites all feel like bits and pieces plucked at random and shuffled around.

Really the only late 70s zappa you need is Lather and Joes Garage, i pretty much skip all the rest from that time. if Lather had come out back then it would have made that era of his catalogue much less of a mess. That being said Lather is probably still only like a 7/10 album, not gonna pretend its a lost masterpice but it works well as a place where a bunch of different Zappa styles all collide together. Joe’s Garage actually has a good claim to being Zappa’s best album IMO. though I do wish there were an instrumental version so I didn’t have to hear the lyrics.

overproduced new jack swing, and dogshit ballads. I like Black Or White. 3/10
