The Black Crowes yes, if just fir carrying the torch for rock and roll for the last 30 years

I don’t actually think you can make that argument in this context. If you click on them on the HoF page, it has a writeup and then says:

Nominees: Jeff Cease, Johnny Colt, Marc Ford, Steve Gorman, Eddie Harsch, Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson

Those are the people from their first two recording lineups 1989(first album in 1990)-1997(last album in 1996). It’s not even the entire original run before they temporarily broke up for the first time.

I thought I was the only person here who really liked them. I think that the most credible version of a Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame should leave out a certain tier of good bands in order to be truly prestigious and not just include anyone who’s worth remembering or has had any real success. I’d put them in that tier. I also don’t think that they were big enough to get in on reputation alone, especially if you take away longevity by having the inducted version of the band end in 1997. But given some of the bands that have gotten in, I guess they make sense, but the HoF should keep them in the back pocket for a year when their inductees are lacking a more traditional rock band to balance the ticket.

If these sales numbers are accurate, Billy Idol is surprisingly not much more commercially successful than The Black Crowes.

Mony Mony was a bigger hit for him that White Wedding?

Lauryn Hill only had one album, but she is seen as someone who had her career unjustly ruined in ways that probably help her get inducted now, & seems like someone they’d want to celebrate.

I’m thinking for sure:

Mariah Carey
Oasis [if they don’t publicly insult the HoF in response to their nomination, like they did last year, if they do then The Black Crowes or Billy Idol probably have a better chance]
Lauryn Hill
Wu-Tang Clan
