I don’t know that I’d call it generational, since it’s not clear to me that the reviewer is actually younger than me. Also, they complain that the first episode is too fast, generally younger viewers usually complain that the classic series is too slow.
I read other stuff from older people who retroactively bitch about how the stuff they grew up with was sexist.
Ark in Space was the first classic serial that I watched and when I rewatched it once or twice I still thought it was a contender, but it’s been years. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a still 10 ten serial for me though.
After watching DW constantly for 10 years when I became a fan, I took a break for the last 3 years or so. The newest episode that I watched was “Eve of the Daleks.” I was more positive about the first Jodie Whittaker season than most people, but Flux was nearly unwatchable to me. You said that you watched the new seasons and they were better, right? I didn’t even realize that there were two seasons by now.
Just looking back on the series from memory, after regularly watching it for 10 years and then taking a break, I’d be much more enthusiastic to revisit the classic series than the “old” new series, but I should watch those new seasons.
